Independence Day can be a difficult holiday for veterans with PTSD and members of our community who suffer from PTSD, and can cause anxiety for pets. Loud, unexpected noises such as fireworks are extremely common triggers for combat veterans suffering from PTSD, because the noises can remind them of gunfire or explosions they experienced on the battlefield. Fireworks are illegal in the State of Illinois and are prohibited in the Village of Broadview Code section 15-12-1. It states in the Village code that it shall be unlawful to sell, store, or discharge any fireworks. There is a fine of $750 if caught discharging fireworks in the Village of Broadview. Most of all, have fun this 4th of July and be safe.
