The Detective Bureau is supervised by a Sergeant and staffed with one detective. The Detective Sergeant supervises all criminal investigations as well as gang/narcotics investigations.  All Detective Bureau employees are assigned to a multi-jurisdictional task force called WEST AF.   The goal of WEST AF (West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force) is to combine the expertise and resources of several police departments to investigate the most serious of crimes within your community.

Members of the Detective Bureau continually attend training in efforts to stay alert of criminal trends and new investigative technology. Detectives are certified evidence technicians and qualified to process crime scenes and collect forensic evidence. In the event a juvenile is suspected of crime or the victim of a crime, detectives are certified to handle all juvenile protocols. Detective Bureau personnel are certified as “Lead Homicide Investigators” through the State of Illinois.

Detectives continuous involvement in the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force (WEST AF) affords them the opportunity to attend annual training for active threat responses and strategies used in the aftermath of mass casualty incidents.
